Supported Decision Making Training- Board for People with Developmental Disabilities


Presenters include, BPDD Executive Director Beth Swedeen and BPDD Public Policy Analyst Tamara Jackson Bpdd along with advocates from the Center on Youth Voice, Youth Choice Youth Ambassadors for Wisconsin!

Wisconsin’s Supported Decision-Making Law took effect in Spring of 2018. Supported Decision-Making is one alternative to guardianship that allows people with disabilities and older adults to retain their legal rights.

This statewide training will cover:

  • What Supported Decision-Making is
  • What alternatives to guardianship are available in Wisconsin
  • How to use Supported Decision-Making strategies, both as an alternative to guardianship and within existing guardianships
  • Legal responsibilities of Supported Decision-Making
  • Stories of how Wisconsin residents have used Supported Decision-Making

This statewide training is for:

  • Person with a disability/older adult
  • Family member and/or guardian of a person with a disability or older adult
  • Aging and Disability Resource Center Staff
  • Managed Care and IRIS staff
  • Educator
