Program: We will offer multiple sessions for families and professionals with dinner and a presentation by our keynote speaker, Jules Edwards.  Activities for kids will be available 

Schedule:

  • 3:00-4:00 PM Session for Professionals with Jules Edwards
  • 5:00 PM: Dinner starts, and resources are available
  • 5:15-6:30 PM: Keynote Speaker Jules Edwards during dinner
  • 6:30-7:30 PM: Breakout Sessions
        • Self-Care for All, Sharon Ninedorf, Occupational Therapist
        • Jules Edwards 

 

Keynote Speaker, Jules Edwards: Jules is an Anishinaabe writer, gardener, accountant, and disability justice advocate. She is a neurodivergent parent of neurodivergent children. Experiencing disability through multiple lenses has helped her to help others. She writes as “Autistic, Typing” on her website and social media. Her first book, I Will Die On This Hill: Autistic Adults, Autism Parents, and the Children Who Deserve a Better World, was co-written with Meghan Ashburn. Jules’ professional development includes a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) fellowship, Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) National Training Director Council fellowship, and Wilder Foundation Community Equity Program (CEP) fellowship.

This free training is for parents (birth/adoptive/foster) and caregivers of children with special needs. Connecting with another parent who has a child with a similar disability or special needs can be one of the most helpful resources a parent will have – it can help make their journey a little easier.

Family Advisory Meeting: Opportunity to share feedback

Children’s Resource Center- North seeks feedback from families through conversations at our upcoming Family Advisory meetings. This is an opportunity to:

  • Discuss the most pressing issues from families in our region
  • Learn from other families, share tips, and network.
  • Let us know what is working and what is not.
  • We also would appreciate suggestions on additional training and programs.
  • Additionally, these meetings will allow staff to provide updates on projects we are developing.

  • An opportunity to network with each other.
  • Let us know what is working and what is not. Provide us feedback on how best to help families

C.A.R.E. Series for Families
Discussions developed to support families who have children or youth with special health care needs

Each session will cover both topics:

  • Requesting a Shared Plan of Care: Working with child’s medical provider to develop a Shared Plan of Care which includes a medical summary, family strengths and goals.
  • Exploring Care Mapping: Design a care map for your family which will serve to show others at a glance all of the people and resources supporting your child’s development.
